In the second period, the Islanders totally unraveled, starting with Tuomaala’s second goal of the game at 2:28 of the second period, assisted by Massimo Rizzo. Despite a near miss by Cole Bardreau, the Islanders struggled defensively, leading to another goal this time by Rizzo at 4:33. The goal, which came at 4:33 of the second, ultimately prompted a goalie change for Bridgeport. Henrik Tikkanen replaced Miska.

Foudy managed to get the Islanders on the board at 8:47, scoring his 16th goal of the season just as the power play expired. But the Phantoms scored two more goals only a few minutes later. The first came from Alexis Gendron at 10:35, and the second came from Wisdom at 10:59.

While turnovers created the first five goals, the last two shouldn’t have gone in. Both pucks were extremely saveable for Tikkanen, but he didn’t make the saves. At one point, Bridgeport had surrendered seven goals on 14 shots.

The four-goal second period put the game out of reach. Isles forward Chris Terry scored a power play goal at 13:01 of the second to make the score 7-2, but the goal meant very little in the overall game. The Phantoms scored two more in the third period to win by a touchdown, 9-2. The aforementioned Wisdom scored one of Lehigh Valley’s two third-period goals, giving him a hat trick.

On the positive side, Chris Terry continued his multi-game scoring streak with his power play marker in the second period. The goal moved Terry's streak to six goals in as many games. Foudy's tally moved his scoring streak to six games, as well. He now has six goals and four assists in his last six contests. The two veteran forwards, along with injured forward Brian Pinho, have been some of Bridgeport's lone bright spots this season.

Bridgeport will have a chance to rebound on Saturday, Jan. 31 at the Hershey Bears (who also surrendered nine goals on Wednesday night), as they begin a weekend series against the defending Calder Cup Champions. All AHL games can be streamed on flohockey.tv
