NY Islanders are giving season ticket members a rare chance to paint the ice at UBS

New York Islanders season ticket members usually experience UBS Arena from the stands. Next week, a select few will have an opportunity to get much closer to the ice, and actually help prepare it.

The Islanders are offering Season Ticket Members the chance to join the organization’s ice operations team and help paint the lines on the UBS Arena ice ahead of the upcoming season.

We know about the end of the season paint the ice tradition, but this is something entirely different and will force season ticket holders to very much stay within the lines.

The exclusive event will take place Wednesday, Sept. 9, from 7:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m., giving fans a behind-the-scenes look at one of the most important parts of getting an NHL rink ready for hockey.

For Islanders fans, this is the type of experience that goes beyond the traditional season-ticket perks of games, merchandise and special events. Participants will have the opportunity to contribute to the actual playing surface that Matthew Schaefer, Mathew Barzal, Ilya Sorokin and the rest of the Islanders will skate on throughout the season.

Season Ticket Members can enter for a chance to participate through Isles Rewards. Each entry costs 350 Isles Rewards points, and those points are non-refundable.

Winners won't have to experience it alone, either. Selected members will be able to bring one guest, with their Islanders Account Manager contacting them to confirm their spot.

Entries were accepted until Friday, Sept. 4 at noon.

There are plenty of experiences professional sports teams can offer their most loyal fans, but actually helping create the surface on which the team plays is certainly one of the more unusual ones.

Long after the lines are painted and the season begins, the selected fans will be able to watch the Islanders take the ice at UBS Arena knowing they played a small part in getting that ice ready.
