The New York Islanders have turned schedule release day into an annual event, and this year's edition may have been their funniest yet.
Fan favorites Cal Clutterbuck and Matt Martin reunited to play rival interns tasked with unveiling the club's 2026-27 schedule, delivering four minutes of comedy packed with inside jokes that longtime Islanders fans immediately appreciated.
The video begins with Clutterbuck returning as the organization's self-proclaimed "lead intern," only to have Martin in the conference room ask, "Will you guys just let anybody work here?" That's particularly funny since Martin now works for the team as a special assistant to the General Manager. Clutterbuck later admits he "felt a little disrespected" after being mocked in front of his fellow interns, setting the stage for a hilarious workplace rivalry that includes games of table hockey.
The two spend the rest of the video trying to one-up each other. Clutterbuck proudly hangs a poster celebrating himself as the NHL's all-time hits leader, a nod to the milestone he reached during his playing career. Martin, meanwhile, can't resist taking shots at his longtime teammate, even vandalizing Clutterbuck's custom bobblehead after specifically being told not to touch it.
The pair's chemistry shines throughout as they're forced to work together on the Islanders' schedule release despite arguing over everything from who "Claudio" is to who actually runs the intern office.
One of the funniest moments comes near the end when Martin casually tells another employee to "go dye your hair," a callback that instantly resonated with Islanders fans. The line references Martin's famous hot-mic exchange with then-Detroit Red Wings forward Drew Miller from the Isles bench.
Eventually, the two put their differences aside and finish the assignment, prompting their boss to proudly declare, "The analytics said they would."
For Islanders fans, the video was another reminder of why Clutterbuck and Martin became two of the most beloved players of the past decade. Their on-ice chemistry helped define an era of Islanders hockey, and years later, they proved they still have perfect comedic timing together.
