NY Islanders continue to reshape organization with two performance staff additions

Mathieu Darche has spent much of his time as New York Islanders general manager putting his own fingerprints on the organization, and that continued with another behind-the-scenes change.

The Islanders announced that Bryan Marshall has been named Director of Player Performance, putting him in charge of strength and conditioning across the NHL roster, Bridgeport and the prospect pipeline.

Andrew Kacsor is also joining the organization as a Strength and Conditioning Coach, working alongside Joe Erdos.

Marshall comes with a pretty serious résumé. He spent 13 seasons with the Vancouver Canucks, most recently as Director of Applied Sports Science, and has also worked with players connected to the Toronto Maple Leafs and London Knights. He is also the founder of Milo Athletics, a high-performance training center in Ontario.

That experience is important because the Islanders are trying to build something that lasts, not just squeeze another season out of the current group.

“Bryan's track record of developing elite athletes at every level of the player’s development process, combined with Andrew's training and approach to athlete development, gives us real depth in this department,” Darche said.

Kacsor brings a different background, including time as Head Performance Coach at Muskoka Hockey and several seasons as a strength and conditioning coach in the KHL.

He has also worked with athletes across the NHL, NBA, NFL, NCAA and OHL.

Another bolstering of the Islanders front office and overall infrastructure. It was something that Darche had to emphasize when he arrived, and regardless of what your thoughts are on what he did at the trade deadline and this summer, there's no debating he's done strong work behind the scenes.
