The hits keep coming for the NY Islanders on the injury front. Just when the team is getting back to full health, another major injury hits as Noah Dobson has been listed as week-to-week with a lower-body injury.

The 24-year-old defenseman suffered what looked to be a gruesome ankle/lower-leg injury in Monday’s 3-1 win against the Columbus Blue Jackets. Dobson collided with Cole Sillinger in the early minutes of the third period but managed to skate off the ice on his own.

Noah Dobson to miss time

Through the first half of the season, Dobson had severely underperformed as it was expected he’d take the next step in his progression after having a career year last season, finishing with 70 points (10 G, 60 A). Nowhere near the pace he set in 2023-24, Dobson has registered just 24 points (6 G, 18 A) through 46 games.

Though he’s been much quieter this season, Dobson has been picking up the pace of late with 16 points (5 G, 11 A) in his last 20 games.

With Dobson missing what appears to be significant time, the Islanders' top two offensive-defensemen from last season are missing from the lineup, joining Mike Reilly who has been out since November after a heart issue was discovered following his concussion.

Patrick Roy will need to turn to Dennis Cholowski as his top offensive threat from the blue line, and could be the replacement on the first power play unit. Grant Hutton could see another recall from Bridgeport and play bottom pair minutes as the rest of the blue line will need to find a way to eat the 24:01 of ice time Dobson has averaged so far this season.
