Orange is not the new blue. Or navy blue. Or even cream and white.

The New York Islanders revealed Friday which fan-designed third jerseys advanced to the next round of voting, with Cal Clutterbuck helping announce the results. For anyone who had been following the competition throughout the week, there was not much suspense.

Once Round One closed at 5 p.m. ET, both orange designs were officially eliminated.

That means fans hoping to see the Islanders skate in a predominantly orange third jersey at UBS Arena during the 2027-28 season will have to wait for another opportunity.

Also eliminated was the navy jersey featuring “Isles” across the chest.

Moving forward are three designs that had emerged as clear fan favorites during the opening round: the blue lighthouse jersey, the blue fisherman jersey and the blue-and-cream design featuring “Islanders” across the front.

The results offer another clue into what Islanders fans want from the team’s next alternate look.

Despite the organization giving fans significant freedom to experiment with different colors and styles, voters ultimately gravitated toward concepts rooted in franchise history.

The lighthouse, once used as a shoulder patch during the late-1990s wave-jersey era, has enjoyed a resurgence throughout the contest. The fisherman, despite remaining one of the most polarizing logos in Islanders history, has also developed a strong nostalgia-driven following, mostly from fans who were too young to remember when it was unveiled.

Meanwhile, the blue-and-cream “Islanders” design offers something different while still maintaining a more traditional color palette.

Orange certainly has its place in Islanders history, and team president of business operations Kelly Cheeseman had previously admitted he would love to see an orange jersey win.

The voters had other ideas.

As the competition moves closer to determining the Islanders’ next third jersey, one trend has become increasingly clear.

When given the choice, fans still seem to believe the Islanders look best in blue.
