NY Islanders formally announce the signing of prospect Alex Jefferies

The New York Islanders announced Wednesday that they have signed forward Alex Jefferies to a one-year, two-way contract, keeping the 24-year-old in the organization after two full professional seasons with Bridgeport.

Jefferies appeared in 60 games for the Bridgeport Islanders during the 2025-26 season, recording nine goals and 20 assists for 29 points. It marked the second consecutive year he finished with 29 points after posting 13 goals and 16 assists in 59 games during the 2024-25 campaign.

The Framingham, Massachusetts, native has yet to match the offensive production he displayed during his collegiate career at Merrimack College, where he totaled 97 points (41 goals, 56 assists) in 105 games over four seasons.

He was named a Hockey East First Team All-Star in 2022-23 after earning Hockey East All-Rookie Team honors as a freshman and was later recognized as a Hobey Baker Memorial Award nominee.

While Jefferies has not emerged as a top offensive contributor at the professional level, he has established himself as a reliable depth forward. At 6-foot and 200 pounds, his skating ability, physical play and versatility provide the Islanders with another option should injuries create opportunities at the NHL level.

The signing also allows the organization to avoid salary arbitration while retaining a player familiar with its system.

For the new affiliate in Hamilton, bringing back Jefferies provides continuity to the roster. The club will look for further development from the former collegiate standout while continuing to evaluate his potential to contribute at the NHL level.
