NY Islanders get encouraging Kyle Palmieri update ahead of training camp

Kyle Palmieri has spent most of the past several months working his way back from a season ending ACL injury. Now, with New York Islanders training camp approaching, the veteran forward finally sounds like someone who can see the finish line.

Palmieri expressed optimism about his recovery while serving as a special guest coach at a Try Street Hockey clinic hosted in collaboration with the Islanders and the Kyle Palmieri Foundation. The event was held exclusively for children of military service members ages 5 to 15.

“Knowing that I’m close to getting back to what I love and getting into the rhythm of things is very exciting,” Palmieri said. “I’m excited to get back out there and compete with my teammates.”

That is an encouraging development for the Islanders after Palmieri appeared in only 25 games during the 2025 26 season before tearing his left ACL in November.

Seven months removed from surgery, Palmieri said his offseason has looked increasingly normal.

“This summer has been as close to normal as it can be seven months after ACL surgery,” he said. “There are some things I can't do or stay away from. But for the most part, I feel good on the ice, and I'm looking forward to getting back on the ice with my teammates.”

Palmieri, who was born in Smithtown, is entering his seventh season with the Islanders and the second year of the two year, $9.5 million contract he signed last offseason.

His appearance at the clinic also carried personal meaning.

The Kyle Palmieri Foundation raises money for programs benefiting the military community, a cause tied closely to his family. Palmieri’s sister served in the Air National Guard, his brother in law serves in the U.S. Army and his niece serves in the U.S. Navy.

But for Islanders fans, the biggest takeaway was Palmieri’s health.

Training camp is getting closer, and so is his return.
