The New York Islanders got back in the win column Thursday night, riding a two-goal performance from Bo Horvat and a steady night from Ilya Sorokin to a 4-1 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks.

Coming off Tuesday's 5-2 loss to the New York Rangers and the devastating news that Alexander Romanov will miss the remainder of the regular season with a torn ACL, the Islanders had plenty of reasons to be looking for a positive result. They got one, taking control early and never really allowing Chicago back into the game.

Horvat got things started in the final minute of the first period, cleaning up a rebound after Matthew Schaefer unleashed a shot from the point on the power play. The Islanders carried that momentum into the second, where they put the game out of reach with two more goals.

Emil Heineman doubled the lead at 6:44, beating Arvid Soderblom with a wrist shot. Less than three minutes later, Anthony Duclair found himself alone near the back post and converted a feed from Logan Stanley to make it 3-0. It was Duclair's first goal of the season, while Stanley picked up one of his two assists on the night.

Sorokin wasn't particularly busy, but he made the saves he needed to, finishing with 22 stops. His shutout bid ended when Frank Nazar scored with 2:32 remaining in regulation, but there was little suspense left by that point.

Horvat put the finishing touches on the victory with an empty-net goal at 18:27, giving him his second of the night and sealing the Isles' second win in three games.

The Islanders didn't overwhelm Chicago offensively, managing just 19 shots on goal, but they made their opportunities count. With Romanov now sidelined for the long term, the Islanders will need contributions throughout the lineup, and Thursday was a good example of getting exactly that.

For a team looking to establish some early-season consistency, it was a solid response after a difficult couple of days.
