Even though they are both part of the NY Islanders organization, Lou Lamoriello and Jacques Lemaire, together, will always be synonymous with the New Jersey Devils. The two spent five seasons together in the Garden State, joining forces to win the Devils first Stanley Cup in 1995.
Last night, Lemaire was inducted into the Devils' Ring of Honor, joined on the ice by Lamoriello.
During Lemaire's speech, the 79-year-old with nine Stanley Cup rings to his name as a player and coach, made sure to thank Lamoriello for the time the two spent together with the Devils.
Lamoriello takes the ice with Lemaire
"I want to thank Lou Lamoriello," Lemaire said. "Always admired the passion he has for the game. All the meetings we had, the hours we spent together, talking about players, the game, and everything was for one goal only...to get the team better so we could win a Stanley Cup."
After his time coaching the Devils ended in 1998, Lemaire was a consultant for the Montreal Canadiens for two seasons before becoming the head coach of the Minnesota Wild during the franchise's first eight seasons. After that, Lemaire was reunited with Lamoriello in New Jersey, remained at his side for three seasons with the Toronto Maple Leafs, and now seven seasons as a Special Assignment Coach for the Islanders.
Lemaire has been known as one of the brightest minds in hockey and has been part of the NHL for over 50 years. You may not hear much about him in regards to his status with the Islanders, but he is someone who has the trust of Lamoriello.
