NY Islanders’ Kyle Palmieri launches new venture for Long Island veterans

Kyle Palmieri has spent years giving back to the military community. Now the New York Islanders forward is taking that commitment another step further.

The Kyle Palmieri Foundation has officially launched ROGER New York, a free online resource hub designed to connect veterans, active service members and military families with verified programs and services throughout Long Island.

ROGER allows users to enter information such as their branch of service and where they live before providing personalized resources covering areas like housing, employment, healthcare, benefits and mental health support.

The idea is to make finding help a whole lot easier.

There are thousands of organizations across the country serving veterans, but Palmieri's foundation points out that actually navigating those programs can become a problem of its own. Outdated directories, complicated qualification requirements and fragmented services can leave veterans unsure where to even begin.

That's the gap ROGER is trying to close.

"The challenges of military service don't end when duty does," Palmieri said, noting that veterans often return home facing new battles involving healthcare, employment and the "invisible wounds of war."

ROGER originally started in New Jersey through Backpacks For Life, and Palmieri's foundation partnered with the organization to bring the platform to his Long Island community.

For Palmieri, it's another cause that goes well beyond hockey.

The service is initially available throughout Nassau, Suffolk and Queens counties, along with New Jersey, with plans to expand across New York State during 2027.

Palmieri has become an important veteran advocate during his Islanders tenure, and this latest initiative isn't simply about raising money or awareness. It's about creating something veterans can actually use when they need help.
