While Kyle Palmieri’s season may have been cut short on the ice, his impact off it never slowed — and that’s exactly why he’s being recognized.

The New York Islanders announced Palmieri as their nominee for the 2025-26 King Clancy Memorial Trophy, an award that honors players who demonstrate leadership and make a meaningful difference in their communities. For Palmieri, that reputation has been built over years, but this season only reinforced it.

“He cares a lot about the people around him and the veterans in our area,” captain Anders Lee said. “He’s put a lot of effort into his foundation and it was really cool to go to his event and see the impact he’s making first-hand.”

Palmieri’s work through the Kyle Palmieri Foundation has become a cornerstone of his off-ice legacy. From hosting a March fundraiser at Lunchbox Brewing Company to organizing an Oktoberfest event in Garden City earlier in the season, Palmieri has consistently brought teammates, fans, and the community together — all in support of causes that matter to him, particularly those benefiting veterans.

“His impact in the community and what he does with his foundation is massive,” Casey Cizikas said. “It’s incredible what he does for people in need, the people that protect our country… a lot of hard work and dedication, he’s a leader for a reason.”

That leadership extends beyond the locker room. Even as injuries limited his contributions on the ice, Palmieri remained a constant presence off it — organizing, supporting, and giving back in ways that resonate far beyond hockey.

Each NHL team submits one nominee for the King Clancy Award, with finalists to be announced later. The winner, selected by a committee that includes Commissioner Gary Bettman and former recipients, is recognized not just for involvement, but for lasting impact.
