NY Islanders land one of the NHL's rising front office stars in Evan Gold

The New York Islanders have officially made one of the more intriguing front-office additions of the offseason.

After weeks of speculation, the organization announced Monday that Evan Gold has joined the club as assistant general manager and general manager of the Hamilton Hammers, the Islanders' new AHL affiliate. It's a move that may not grab headlines the way a blockbuster trade does, but it could prove just as important to the organization's long-term success.

Gold arrives after spending the past 12 seasons with the Boston Bruins, where he developed a reputation as one of hockey's brightest hockey operations executives. Since 2019, he served as Boston's assistant general manager, overseeing everything from salary cap strategy and contract negotiations to roster construction and CBA compliance.

More recently, he served as general manager of the Providence Bruins, leading the AHL club to the league's best regular-season record this past year at 54-16-2.

"Evan brings a rare combination of experience, intelligence, and results to our Hockey Operations department," Darche said in a statement. "His background, combined with his legal and business acumen, makes him an outstanding fit for our department as we continue building a team that competes on the island and in Hamilton."

The hire also reinforces Darche's vision of building a stronger organization from top to bottom.

Gold won't simply help manage the NHL roster. He'll oversee player development in Hamilton while also working alongside assistant general managers Ryan Bowness, Chris Lamoriello and Steve Pellegrini on roster strategy, scouting and salary cap management.

For Gold, the opportunity was one he couldn't pass up.

Adding players is one way to build a contender. Adding talented executives may be just as important, and the Islanders believe they've landed one of the NHL's best.
