Vince Dunn and Jared McCann each had a goal and an assist, and the Seattle Kraken snapped a four-game losing streak with a 4-1 victory over the New York Islanders on Wednesday night.

Matty Beniers and Kaapo Kakko also scored for Seattle, which improved to 21-23-6. Philipp Grubauer made 24 saves and added a secondary assist on McCann’s empty-net goal late in the third period.

Anthony Duclair scored on the power play 2:38 into the game for the Islanders, who finished a seven-game road trip at 3-3-1. Ilya Sorokin stopped 21 shots but fell to 16-12-2 on the season. The Islanders struck first when Duclair continued his hot stretch, snapping home his fifth goal in as many games on the Isles first power-play opportunity. It was Duclair’s eighth goal in his last eight outings, something not done since Brock Nelson in 2022.

Seattle answered later in the opening period during a five-on-three advantage. Dunn’s point shot was redirected in front by Beniers at 9:20 to tie the game 1-1. The opening 20 minutes were choppy, with the teams combining for six penalties. Dunn put the Kraken ahead for good at 13:37 of the second period. Taking a pass from Ryan Winterton, Dunn stepped into a wrist shot from the right circle that beat Sorokin cleanly for his seventh goal of the season. Ben Meyers also picked up an assist on the play.

Kakko added insurance at 6:56 of the third period, finishing off a rush chance to make it 3-1. McCann then sealed the win with 1:36 remaining, scoring into an empty net after Grubauer made a save and quickly moved the puck up ice. McCann’s goal gave him a point in 17 of the 25 games he has played this season. Dunn finished with two points for the third time in his last four games.

“I didn't think we were very sharp, off in too many areas,” Anders Lee said. “Just a frustrating game tonight, I think we kind of shot ourselves in the foot more than they beat us.”

The Isles return home Saturday afternoon against Buffalo.
