At the forefront of the Islanders’ prospect pool is Victor Eklund, whose development path has largely gone according to plan.

Eklund transitioned to tougher competition in Sweden’s SHL and handled it well, showing improved confidence and puck poise against stronger opponents. He progressed so much that, after an impressive stint with Bridgeport, he made his NHL debut in the regular-season finale and picked up an assist. His game revolves around awareness and offensive instincts—finding space, making quick decisions, and driving play through transition. While physical maturity remains a work in progress, his skill set suggests middle-six scoring potential, with room to grow into something more.

Right behind him is Kashawn Aitcheson, who has taken a different path but delivered equally compelling results. Aitcheson dominated the OHL, leading all defencemen in both goals and points while serving as captain of the Barrie Colts. His physical presence, combined with improved skating and offensive production, makes him one of the more intriguing defense prospects in the system.

Still, his game isn’t without risk. Defensive consistency and decision-making remain areas to refine, particularly when facing higher-level competition. But the raw tools—size, mobility, and offensive instincts—are already in place.

Then there’s Cole Eiserman, arguably the purest goal scorer in the pipeline. After a strong NCAA stint at Boston University, Eiserman has transitioned into the pro ranks, bringing with him an elite release capable of beating goaltenders from nearly anywhere in the offensive zone. The next step for Eiserman is evolution. While his scoring ability is undeniable, becoming a more complete offensive player—especially as a playmaker—will determine whether he tops out as a specialist or develops into a true top-line threat.

Together, Eklund, Aitcheson, and Eiserman form the core of the Islanders’ next wave. They don’t carry the same singular star power Schaefer did—but as a group, they provide a more balanced mix of skill sets that could translate into meaningful NHL roles.
