Many of the NY Islanders' prospects are preparing for their first professional season in North America. The transition comes with plenty of adjustments to the style and speed of the game, as a good amount of the work put in comes off the ice.

Playing against some of the top talent in the world, the game becomes more physical, and it appears as if Victor Eklund and Daniil Prokhorov have put in the time in the weight room to prepare their bodies for the wear and tear that comes with an AHL or NHL season.

Prokhorov, who was listed at 219 lbs last season, has weighed in at 234 lbs at Rookie Camp. Eklund, weighing just 161 lbs last season, is now listed at 175 lbs.

The 6’5” Prokhorov was already an intimidating force, but adding 15 pounds to his frame will make him an even more daunting opponent in the corners and in front of goal, where he gets most of his work done.

The knock on Eklund when the Islanders selected him 16th overall at the 2025 NHL Draft was his size. Listed at just 5’11”, there were questions about whether his body could withstand the force of the NHL. Despite his size, Eklund doesn’t shy away from physicality, willing to battle for pucks against players much bigger. Adding size to his frame will only improve his chances of coming out of corners with the puck rather than just making it difficult for the opposition.

“It doesn’t feel like I had a few days off,” Eklund said of his summer. “I’ve been working hard. So, yeah, I’m excited to show off what I’ve been working on.”

Prokhorov and Eklund will take the ice today as the Islanders prospects take on the NJ Devils prospects at 2 pm.
