Ilya Sorokin turned in another masterclass between the pipes, stopping 21 shots for his NHL-leading sixth shutout as the New York Islanders rolled past the Philadelphia Flyers 4-0 on Monday night.

Jean-Gabriel Pageau led the way offensively with two goals, while Mathew Barzal and Tony DeAngelo also scored for the Islanders, who snapped a two-game losing streak and maintained their hold on third place in the Metropolitan Division.

Two days after being shut out at home versus the Sabres, the Islanders wasted little time responding. Pageau opened the scoring with a short-handed goal, snapping the Islanders’ scoreless drought with his ninth of the season. It also marked the fifth short-handed goal the Flyers have allowed this year.

The Isles continued to press in the second period and doubled the lead at 5:41 when Barzal deflected Isaiah George’s point shot past Flyers goaltender Samuel Ersson for his 12th goal of the season. The Islanders added to their advantage later in the period on the power play when DeAngelo, skating against his former team, beat Ersson with a well-placed shot to make it 3-0.

Pageau put the finishing touch on a dominant night late in the third period, smashing home his second goal to cap the scoring and seal a lopsided victory.

Sorokin was rarely tested by a Flyers team that struggled to generate sustained pressure. The 30-year-old netminder earned his third shutout of the month and his second in four starts, continuing a stretch of elite play that has him firmly in the Vezina Trophy conversation.

The Islanders will look to build on the shutout when they host the New York Rangers on Wednesday, before the two rivals meet again the following night at Madison Square Garden.
