The New York Islanders are officially putting the future of their next third jersey in the hands of Isles Nation. On Tuesday, the organization revealed the eight finalists in its fan-driven third jersey design contest, the first of its kind in NHL history.

The response to this idea and initiative has been massive.

The Islanders received 80,490 submissions from fans before a committee featuring players and members of Hockey Operations narrowed the field down to eight concepts.

Now comes the fun (and agonizing) part.

The remaining designs will go head to head in a bracket style fan vote, with the winning concept eventually becoming the Islanders’ new third jersey for the 2027 28 season.

The first round begins Aug. 12 at noon and runs through Aug. 14 at 5 p.m. Fans will choose between four themed matchups: Lighthouse vs. Lighthouse, Fisherman vs. Fisherman, NY vs. NY and ISLES vs. ISLANDERS.

Round two will take place from Aug. 15 through Aug. 17, cutting the field from four designs to two.

Then comes the final.

Voting in Round three runs from Aug. 18 through Aug. 20, with fans selecting the concept that will eventually become the next Islanders alternate sweater.

The organization plans to unveil the winning design in the days following the vote, although the chosen concept will still go through an extensive development process before the complete jersey kit is finalized.

“Islanders fans have once again blown us away with their incredible creativity and the sheer volume of participation,” Islanders and UBS Arena President of Business Operations Kelly Cheeseman said.

Considering the history surrounding Islanders jerseys, especially the never-ending debate over the Fisherman logo, allowing fans to have the final say feels especially fitting. More than 80,000 ideas have become eight. Now decides which one makes it onto the ice during the 2027-28 season.
