NY Islanders: The best players to wear No. 1

Glenn “Chico” Resch

Resch wore the number one from 1974 to 1981. In that time, Resch played 282 games and won 157 of those games. With a stellar 2.56 GAA, Resch was a great tandem-type goaltender that was an all-star five of the eight seasons with the Islanders. He played in four games during the 1980 Stanley Cup Playoffs that culminated in the franchise's first Stanley Cup.

The Islanders would go on to win four straight, but Resch was traded, along with Steve Tambellini, to the Colorado Rockies on March 10, 1981. Resch was an outgoing personality for the Islanders and helped develop the love of hockey on Long Island during his tenure.

Although Billy Smith gets the recognition for the success in the crease, and rightfully so, Resch played 45 games in 1979-80 and won 23 games.
