Honorable Mention
It is difficult to discuss Islanders goaltenders without mentioning Rick DiPietro.
DiPietro wore the number one upon his entry to the NHL. Before changing to his number 39 jersey, DiPietro wore the number from 2001-2003.
Another short-lived goalie that wore the number one was Roberto Luongo. The highly touted prospect wore the number for 24 games in 2000 before being traded to the Florida Panthers.
