The New York Islanders built the exact start they wanted in Boston — and then watched it unravel in the middle frame as they fell 5-2 at TD Garden in Boston to break their five-game point streak.
Bo Horvat continued his torrid stretch by scoring 1:08 into the game for his sixth goal in as many outings, then set up Kyle Palmieri for a one–timer that made it 2–0 before the five-minute mark. New York controlled the opening period, outshooting the Bruins 10–4 and dictating play in all three zones.
But the game flipped in the second. Two early Islanders penalties cracked the door, and Boston barged through with Elias Lindholm’s power-play goal at 3:57. Less than three minutes later, David Pastrnak tied it, and just 59 seconds after that, Mikey Eyssimont redirected home the go-ahead goal to make it 3–2. Boston never looked back. Morgan Geekie added a power-play goal in the third and Fraser Minten sealed it into an empty net. Joonas Korpisalo stopped 33 shots for the Bruins, who rebounded from a 7–2 loss the night before.
Ilya Sorokin made 17 saves for the Islanders, who dropped a regulation game for the first time since Oct. 13 after earning points in five straight. Sorokin has now allowed 3+ goals in all seven games he's played this season, and has allowed four goals in five of the seven.
New York now turns the page quickly as after a day off on Wednesday, they have tough back-to-back road games against the Carolina Hurricanes and Washington Capitals.
