2022-23 NY Islanders Team and individual betting odds
The start of the 2022-23 season is rapidly approaching as the puck drops in 43 days when the Nashville Predators and San Jose Sharks travel to Prague, Czechia, on October 7th, as part of the NHL Global Series. The NY Islanders will get down to business a few days later when the Florida Panthers visit the UBS Arena on October 13th.
Betting odds for both individual and team awards have now been made available. Islanders fans on Long Island, multiple states, and across Canada can now legally place bets on the NHL.
Heading into last season, the Islanders were among the betting favorites for the Stanley Cup after making the conference final/semi-final in each of the previous two seasons. According to HockeyReference.com, the Islanders' preseason odds heading into the 2021-22 season were +2000, good enough for eighth-best in the league. This means that a $100 bet would net you $2,000 if they were crowned champions.
After a disappointing season, the odds have cooled off significantly heading into the 2022-23 season, although, there could be some betting value with the Islanders along with individual players.
Note: All bets are based on a $100 wager.
Example: If the given line is +200, a $100 bet would net $200. If the given line is -130, it would take a $130 bet to net $100.
Stanley Cup Champions
As it stands, the Islanders are +3500 to raise Lord Stanley's Cup at the end of the season. Their odds are middle of the pack, tied for 14th best in the NHL with the LA Kings. Given that the team was +2000 at the beginning of last season, the team's odds have significantly dropped at the sportsbook. The defending champion Colorado Avalanche leads the way with odds more than double the second-best Toronto Maple Leafs.
The last time the Isles were crowned Stanley Cup champions was in 1983, the final cup victory in a string of four in a row.

Eastern Conference Champions
Like the Isles odds to win the Stanley cup, they are also in the middle of the pack to make it to the finals. At +1600, the Isles sit 8th in the conference, just below the Boston Bruins and just ahead of the Washington Capitals. The Maple Leafs are the betting favorite to win the Eastern Conference, followed closely behind by the high-flying Panthers. The Isles will look to become the first different Eastern Conference champion in four seasons as the Tampa Bay Lightning were crowned champions in each of the previous three.
The last time the Isles made it to the Stanley Cup final was in 1984. This would be the season the Isles dynasty would end as they were dethroned by the Edmonton Oilers and marked the first championship for the soon-to-be Oilers dynasty.

Metropolitan Division Winner
The Islanders find themselves at +700 to become victors of the Metropolitan Division. In 2022, the Carolina Hurricanes raised the Metro Division banner for the second year in a row. With their big off-season acquisition of Max Pacioretty and coming off a strong campaign, they have been named favorites once again.
Once this season's playoffs begin, it will have been 35 years since the Islanders last won the division title in 1987-88, when they were the top team in the Patrick Division.

Presidents Trophy Winner
Just like most team awards, the Avalanche are the betting favorite to bring home hardware in 2023 as the team with the most points in the regular season. The defending champion Lightning swept last season's Presidents' Trophy-winning Panthers in the second round. The last time a team won the Presidents' Trophy and the Stanley Cup in the same season was the Chicago Blackhawks in 2013.
Through all the franchise's success in the 1980s, the Islanders have never taken home the Presidents' Trophy.

Over/Under Total Points
It seems as if the bookmakers in Las Vegas are expecting the Islanders to improve on a poor showing last season. The Over/Under has been set at 93.5 points, nearly 10 points higher than last season when the team finished with 84 points. This point total would put them right on the cusp of the playoffs and should be a good target for the team.

To make the playoffs
To the disbelief of much of the fan base, the sportsbooks seem to believe the Islanders have a slightly better chance to make the playoffs than head to the golf course following the regular season. At -130, the Islanders' odds are just above 50/50 and will depend a lot on if the team can score enough as it looks like they will be heading into the season with the same forward group as last season.

Rocket Richard Trophy
The Rocket Richard trophy for the most goals scored by a player was first awarded following the 1998-99 season to Teemu Selanne when he scored 47 goals. Last season, it was awarded to Auston Matthews who took home the trophy for the second straight year scoring 60 goals.
As goal scoring has been a struggle recently for the Islanders, center, Brock Nelson is the only member of the team currently with odds to be the league-leading goal scorer this season. At +15000, Nelson is a huge long shot and tied for 43rd best odds with Tyler Bertuzzi, Timo Meier, Tomas Hertl, Jack Eichel, Bo Horvat, Gabriel Landeskog, Jonathan Huberdeau., Kevin Fiala, and Dylan Larkin.
Though an Islanders player has never won the Rocket Richard Trophy, the last to lead the league in goal scoring was Mike Bossy back in 1980-81 when he scored 68 goals.

Vezina Trophy
Given to the league's best goaltender, the Vezina Trophy may be the award the Isles have the best shot at winning. Ilya Sorokin is among the league's favorites to take home the prestigious trophy with odds of +800, good enough for third best in the NHL. He sits behind only defending winner and close friend Igor Shesterkin and Andrei Vasilevskiy. The three Russian netminders have become the cream of the crop in between the pipes in the NHL.
In 2019, Robin Lehner was named a Vezina finalist for the Islanders, but to find the last Islanders winner you have to go back to 1982 when Billy Smith was announced as the victor.

Hart Trophy
Given to the MVP of the league each season, the Hart Trophy is the most sought-after of all the individual trophies. Gretzky dominated the 80s, winning the trophy in 8 consecutive seasons and nine of ten overall. Last season, Auston Matthews won his first Hart trophy and is the second favorite this season behind only Connor McDavid.
Mathew Barzal is the lone Islanders player currently with a pre-season chance to win, having long shot odds at +7000. This has him ranked tied for 26th with division rivals Jack Hughes and Jake Guentzel.
We are now in the fifth decade since an Islanders player was last named MVP of the league when Bryan Trottier did so in 1979.

Norris Trophy
Given each year to the league's best defender, the award is typically given to blue liners who produce offensively. It has been a long time since any Islanders defender has been in the conversation for this award, but the emergence of Noah Dobson gives him an outside chance of becoming the trophy holder. Dobson's odds are currently a whopping +10000, which ties him with rookie Owen Power, along with Evan Bouchard and John Klingberg.
Like most awards, the last Islander to win the Norris Trophy was part of the dynasty era as Denis Potvin won in 1979. It was his third victory in four years. His performance in 1976 made him the first player to dethrone Bobby Orr, who put together a string of eight straight Norris trophies.

Calder Trophy
Given to the league's most outstanding rookie, the Calder Trophy is one award that an Islander has won in recent memory. In 2018, Barzal accepted the award and became known as "the kid who won the Calder." His 85 points in 82 games earned him the honors while leading the team in scoring in his inaugural season. Aatu Räty is the Islanders' best hope this season as he is currently 10th among rookies with odds of +1200.
Last season, Moritz Seider was crowned the victor, edging out Trevor Zegras and Michael Bunting.
