MINUS
Unlike most players on the team, Nelson didn't seem to struggle all that much this past season. All throughout the lineup, there were injuries, tons of inconsistent play and just overall team struggles with coaching changes and a new playing style enforced. The only player that wasn't affected was Nelson, again proving how much he matters to this team and the locker room. While there isn't much to discuss in terms of the negative, there are a few places that Nelson could improve to hopefully help the team overall.
In the playoffs, the whole team struggled against the Hurricanes and as a whole needed to show up. While Nelson didn't completely disappear the way others did, his scoring touch looked lost. He had 4 points in 5 games, second most behind Mat Barzal, but after scoring 34 goals in the regular season 2 in the playoffs is laughable. Especially as a veteran scorer on the team, there are American-born rookies all over the NHL who looked up to Nelson growing up and he needs to step up and prove that he is one of the best defensemen in the NHL, even during the playoffs.
