They've done it. The New York Islanders AHL affiliate, the Bridgeport islanders, have moved onto the second round of the AHL playoffs.

Sweeping the Providence Bruins, in their best-of-three series with two overtime wins, the AHL Islanders move on for the first time in nearly twenty years. The second-round schedule for the Islanders series against the Charlotte Checkers is now out.

Starting the series at home is a huge boost for the Bridgeport Islanders. As it would be for any team. Not being able to close it out at home is certainly not ideal but you got to roll with the punches.

The Checkers were the top team in the Atlantic Division on the season with a .625 points percentage compared to the Islanders .507 points percentage ranking them sixth in the Atlantic Division. The Islanders are going to find it tough against this team.

A new strategy will be in order for the Islanders to take this series. They can't possibly expect the same result with the same approach. Cory Schneider stole the show for them, but Providence was missing some top-quality scorers on the roster.

The Isles also made a habit of running to the penalty box. That can't be sustained against the Checkers. Not only has their power play been stronger than Providence, but they won't be missing that top quality that Providence was missing.

We'll get to see what that new plan is in another four days.
