Islanders Top 3 Players of the Week: Anders Lee & Brock Nelson continues to make presence felt
The NY Islanders played three times last week tallying a 2-1-0 record on the road. The first came on Tuesday, Nov. 1, when the team traveled to Illinois to take on the Chicago Blackhawks. The Islanders were able to come out of Chicago with the win, 3-1.
In the next game, the Islanders traveled to St. Louis to take on the St. Louis Blues. The Islanders were able to continue their hot streak and win this game, 5-2. The final game of the week came when the Islanders traveled to Detroit. This was a super ugly game as the Islanders got shut out, and fell to the Detroit Red Wings, 3-0. Here are the top three players of the week.
⭐️⭐️⭐️ Brock Nelson
Brock Nelson has been playing very well this season, and this week was no different. When the Islanders played the Blackhawks, Nelson found the score sheet with an assist to Anders Lee on a powerplay goal. The goal gave the Islanders the lead, 1-0.
However, almost midway into the third period, Nelson scored a goal of his own thanks to an assist by Ross Johnston to extend the Islanders' lead to 2-0. Nelson played a pivotal role in the Islanders' victory over the Blackhawks. Against the Blues, we saw more of the same by Nelson.
Nelson picked up a goal on the powerplay about five minutes into the second period. The goal gave the Islanders the 2-1 lead, and they never looked back after that. However, he wasn't done on the night. Later in the second period, Nelson found Lee with a beautiful pass that led to the captain getting one in the net. Nelson finished the week with four points on two goals and two assists.
⭐️⭐️ Noah Dobson
Noah Dobson continues to shine in the Islanders' new campaign. Dobson has picked up eight points already on the season on three goals and five assists in only 12 games played. Dobson continues to impress as one of the best young Islanders defensemen.
Last week, Dobson picked up a two-point game when the Islanders faced the Blues. The first point Dobson picked up was thanks to a goal by Kyle Palmieri. Dobson found Palmieri with a great pass to put the Islanders on the board early in the second period, 1-0.
The second point came about five minutes later when Dobson was able to pass the puck to Lee, who quickly passed it to Nelson to pick up a powerplay goal. Dobson shows that not only is he a valuable asset on defense, but he is also a valuable asset on offense.
⭐️ Anders Lee
Lee had a great week last week. On Tuesday, Lee netted himself a powerplay goal against the Blackhawks to give the Islanders the 1-0 lead late in the first period. The Islanders did not look back and went on to beat Chicago, in Chicago.
However, Lee's big night came against the Blues. Lee managed to pick up two points during the game against the Blues. The first of which was an assist that came on Nelson's powerplay goal. The second was a goal that Lee picked up about midway through the second period.
The goal gave the Islanders the 4-1 lead. Lead by example, that is how Lee has always played his game, and this year is no different. As the captain of the team, Lee shows that when he plays well, the whole team does well, and that's no surprise.
