Throughout the week of 3/27-4/2 the New York Islanders played four games. The Islanders lost their first game of the week on Sunday 3/27 to the Tampa Bay Lightning by a score of four to one. On Tuesday, the Islanders were able to bounce back when they played the Columbus Blue Jackets in Columbus where they won, four to three.

On Thursday, the Islanders met up with the Columbus Blue Jackets again. This time, Columbus came to New York and the Islanders beat them five to two. The final game of the week was Friday and the Islanders faced the Rangers at Madison Square Garden. The Islanders shut the Rangers out and won, three to zero.

Honorable Mention

Although, not having the best season of late, Oliver Wahlstrom has seemingly picked up the pace this past week. On Thursday, Wahlstrom picked up one goal in a game that many are calling the best of his season so far. On Saturday, Wahlstrom picked up an assist remaining hot as well. He played 17 shifts and got a nice amount of ice-time so hopefully, that could be the start of something bigger.

3. Semyon Varlamov

Semyon Varlamov has to be one of the top three players of the week for quite a few reasons. The first reason is that on Sunday, Ilya Sorokin suffered an injury when the Islanders played the Lightning. Varlamov had to play one period that day and he started every other day that week.

Varlamov came into that game and allowed two goals and picked up 12 saves. On Tuesday, Varlamov allowed three goals and picked up 42 saves. On Thursday, Varlamov allowed two goals and picked up 30 saves. Most impressively, on Friday, Varlamov went into MSG and shut out the Rangers picking up 27 saves.

2. Brock Nelson

This feels like a permanent thing, having Brock Nelson in the top three every week. Nelson has been playing outstanding hockey, for the most part, this season. Last week wasn't much different. Nelson picked up one goal in Sunday's game against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

On Tuesday, Nelson picked up one goal and one assist, helping the team beat Columbus, in Columbus. On Thursday, Nelson picked up one assist in the win over Columbus at home. On the week, Nelson picked up two goals, and two assists, remaining very active on his team.

1. Mathew Barzal

Mathew Barzal had a very good week last week. On Tuesday, Barzal picked up two assists, when he set up his teammates for goals. On Thursday, Barzal picked up one goal and one assist, continuing to remain hot in the offensive zone.

Lastly, on Friday, Barzal picked up one goal and one assist as well. During the week, Barzal picked up two goals and four assists. Barzal has had a fairly quiet season, so it was nice to see Barzal back to feeling like himself and making big plays getting his teammates open, while also picking up a couple of goals himself.
