Islanders Top Three Players Of The Year
In a rather disappointing season, the New York Islanders finished the season with a record of 37-35-10. The team started off rough and could never really recover. Throughout the season, we did see some things to be happy about. Here are the top three players of the year.
3. Brock Nelson
One of the brightest stars and most surprising on the Islanders' offense this year, came from their center, Brock Nelson. On the year, Nelson put up a total of 59 points. He did so by scoring 37 goals while obtaining 22 assists. Nelson played in all but 10 games this year, and he made his presence felt in just about every game.
In one of his best games of the year, the New York Islanders took on the Montreal Canadiens on November 4th, 2021. Nelson picked up four goals and played a big part in his team being victorious by a final score of six to two. Nelson also picked up another hat trick on March 19th, 2022 when the Islanders played Dallas at home.
2. Ilya Sorokin
One of the big reasons why the Islanders won as many games as they did was due to the man in the net, Ilya Sorokin. Sorokin played great this year. Not every game was a perfect game, but he played extremely well. Sorokin finished the year with a record of 26-18-8. He also finished the year with a 2.40 GAA, and a .925 save percentage.
Sorokin picked up seven shutouts as well, most recently against Montreal on April 15th, 2022. In his first full season, to say it was anything but success would be wrong. The 26-year-old goalie found his legs this season and continued to show why he will be the Islanders' number one goalie for years to come.
1. Noah Dobson
By now, you're probably tired of hearing me talk about how good Noah Dobson is, but here we are. Dobson is hands down one of the best young players on the New York Islanders. Dobson being only 22-years-old picked up his first 50-point season, picking up 51 points this year.
On the year, Dobson picked up 13 goals and 38 assists. These are great numbers for a defenseman. These are great numbers for any player, overall. A 50-point year is nothing to frown at. Dobson showed this season why he is going to be one of the players this team builds around for years to come.
While it was a rough and rocky season from the start, the New York Islanders fought hard to make their way back into the playoff picture. Sadly, it was to no avail. However, everyone should expect this team to be right back in it next year. With the new coach being named today, we may be entering some more exciting times to be a New York Islanders fan.
