Throughout the 2022-23 NHL season, the NY Islanders had some great showings by some of their top players. This sentiment is especially true for center Brock Nelson who had another stellar year. While Nelson would have some streaky play this season, night in and night out Nelson continued to be one of the Islanders' best forwards, and that should not go unnoticed.

NY Islanders 2022-23 player report card: Brock Nelson

Brock Nelson has been with the Islanders since 2013 when he first made his NHL debut. Over the course of the past 10 years, Nelson has shown why he is one of the most dependable, productive, and all-around best Islanders forwards around today. Last season, Brock Nelson played incredibly, picking up 37 goals, and 22 assists for 59 points. This year would be no different.

This year, Nelson tallied 36 goals, 39 assists, and 75 points. This marked a career-high in assists and points for the 31-year-old center. His previous career-high in assists was 28 back in 2018-19, and in points was 59 last year. Nelson would go on to play in all 82 games this year, showing the Islanders that they can count on him to be healthy and on the ice whenever they needed him.

It wasn't until the acquisition of the quick Pierre Engvall, that the second line would really begin to take off. Also, with fellow linemate Kyle Palmieri banged up for a large chunk of the season, missing 27 games, it will certainly be interesting to see what that line would look like all healthy. In the playoffs, Nelson would tallie five points off of two goals and three assists, more than doing his part.

With all things considered, Brock Nelson has shown why he is one of the Islanders' top forwards around today. Truthfully, Nelson isn't just one of their top forwards, he is THE top forward. Although he was a bit streaky at times, Nelson has earned an A on the season. Islanders fans have a lot to be excited about, and with a healthy Engvall, Nelson, and Palmieri line, Nelson could reach heights that he has never seen before.
