Yesterday was day three of the World Junior Summer Showcase, as the four competing nations prepare for the World Junior Championship beginning in December.
On Tuesday, Team USA White defeated Finland 5-3, with the two nations facing off against one another just a day later.
Team USA was split into their blue and white squads through the first two games, condensing their rosters to a single team before yesterday's action. NY Islanders prospect Danny Nelson, who was present at camp, didn't participate in any games, with the likes of Ryan Leonard (WSH), Gabe Perrault (NYR), Oliver Moore (CHI), and Zeev Buium joining him, with all expected to make the USA roster come the holiday season.
This year's first-round pick of the Islanders, Cole Eiserman, remained on the roster and put together his best performance in three games.
Eiserman was lined up on the left wing for the US alongside Brodie Ziemer (BUF) and projected 2025 first-overall pick and Long Island native, James Hagens. Eiserman found the back of the net for his first goal of the showcase, after Hagens forced a turnover, setting up his USNTDP teammate for a one-timer to tie the game at two.
Hagens and Eiserman will be playing in the same city next season as they beging the collegiate careers, with Hagens playing at Boston College and Eiserman at Boston University. The two will be bitter rivals in a few months time but for now, they're just trying to soak up the opportunity.
"Going to enjoy the time with him now because he's a really good player," Eiserman told FloHockey. "Obviously it's going to be tougher playing against him, but definitely excited, it's a lot of fun to have him on my team."
A 4-point night for Islanders prospects
Chris Peters of FloHockey says Eiserman was more noticeable in this game than he was in the previous two, making more plays and making himself available for more scoring opportunities.
Lined up across the ice from Eiserman, Jesse Nurmi put together a three-point performance in Finland's 5-3 win over the Stars and Stripes.
Nurmi finished the night with two assists and an empty-net goal, bringing his point total through three games to five - tied for most alongside Brandon Svoboda (SJS).
Eiserman and Nurmi will both have tomorrow off, before hitting the ice for their final two games, as both nations are still scheduled to take on Sweden and Canada.
