You'd be hard-pressed to find a player on the NY Islanders, let alone, the NHL, who gives more than Zach Parise shift after shift. Despite the lack of team success, an impressive 2021-22 season for Parise earned him a second contract with the Islanders, a copied and pasted version of the first contract he signed with GM Lou Lamoriello. On a league-minimum contract, Parise is providing the Islanders with a significant bang for his buck as one of the lowest cost per point players in the NHL.

According to Sportsnet, the NHL's lowest cost per point player is none other than Bridgeport Islanders head coach Brent Thompson's son, Tage. Thompson is in the final year of his three-year, $4.2 million deal ($1.4 million per year). Sportsnet calculates that Thompson's cost per point this season is an astounding $25,454. His seven-year, $49,999,999 deal kicks in next season, so he won't remain at the top of this hill much longer.

Although Parise isn't haven't an MVP-caliber season like Thompson, he has scored 12 goals and 19 points for the Islanders playing in a bottom-6 role on the Islanders' third line. Mostly centered by J.G. Pageau, Parise's cost per point this season estimates to $39,473 per point so far this season. That ties him with Long Island's own Sonny Milano who has similarly scored seven goals and 19 points in 30 games for the Washington Capitals. Parise's 12 goals is third most among the Islanders behind Anders Lee(14) and Brock Nelson(15).

Parise is still making plenty of money though. The reason why Lamoriello was able to pounce on Parise two summers ago at such a low cost is that the Minnesota Wild bought out the current Islander forward's 13-year contract that lasts through 2025. The Wild are now paying Parise $6,371,794 this season as part of his buyout. Don't worry, Parise is doing just fine.
