According to a report from PHNX Sports correspondent Craig Morgan, former New York Islanders forward Andrew Ladd failed his physical due to ongoing issues with his surgically repaired knee. Per the terms of the July 2021 trade that sent him to Arizona, Ladd being placed on LTIR will result in the Arizona Coyotes receiving the Isles 3rd round selection in the 2023 NHL Draft.

Andrew Ladd to go on LTIR; NY Islanders will lose 2023 3rd round pick

Ladd was traded along with a 2nd round pick in 2021, a 2nd round pick in 2022, and a conditional 3rd round selection in 2023. If Ladd decided to retire or ended up playing this season, it would've meant that the Islanders kept their 2023 third-round pick. That's because the conditions of the 2023 3rd-round pick were that the pick would be transferred to Arizona only if Ladd does not play professional games this season and doesn't retire. It appears that is exactly what is going to happen.

Ladd played 51 games for Arizona last season and scored 12 points (7G, 5A) as a bottom-six forward with occasional time spent on special teams. He last appeared during the regular season for the Isles on March 10, 2020, before playing in Game 2 of the Conference Semi-Final versus the Tampa Bay Lightning. In 1,001 career games across 16 NHL seasons, he's scored 256 goals and collected 294 assists. In 181 games with the Islanders, Ladd had 72 points (39 G, 33 A) after signing a 7-year contract in 2016

Ladd reached the 1,000 career games played milestone in April 2022 in a game versus the Chicago Blackhawks. The 36-year-old became the 370th NHL player to play in 1,000 games and the 15th in Coyotes/Winnipeg Jets franchise history to reach the mark playing for the team.

"I'm really proud to be able to play 1,000 games," said Ladd. "I was sitting in Bridgeport a couple years ago with this goal in mind to get back to playing NHL games again and ultimately hitting this milestone. To finally be here and see all that hard work and time that I put into getting back into this spot so I could have this opportunity is fulfilling to say the least."
