Excitement is starting to build for the Stadium Series games set for MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ, which are now only a month away. Besides the games (and perhaps the weather forecast), the most eagerly anticipated part of the experience is the new jersey designs.
NY Islanders Stadium Series jerseys to be released next week
New Jersey Devils beat reporter, Ryan Novozinsky, of the Star-Ledger was able to confirm that the Stadium Series jerseys would be released next week and was able to get some thoughts from the league on the type of designs fans should expect.
“With the jerseys, let’s face it, these teams have played in a lot of outdoor games,” NHL chief content officer Seve Mayer said to NJ.com. “Every time, we have to be a little different with the designs. I think you’re going to like these."
The game between the New York Islanders and New York Rangers will be their second outdoor matchup. The Blueshirts, who will be the away team in NJ, defeated the Isles 2-1 on a frigid night at Yankee Stadium in 2014. On that night, the Isles wore a new modern design with an enlarged "NY" logo that stood out with the four stripes on the stick blade outlined in a chrome border.
The team continued to wear the jersey as an alternate during the rest of 2014 and for the 2014-15 season, which was the last at the Nassau Coliseum. When the team moved to Barclays Center, a new black and white third jersey took it's place, but the large "NY" logo remained as the crest and is still be used as part of the Islanders current alternate blue, orange and white sweater.
The league also announced that New York City band AJR will perform during the intermission of the Islanders-Rangers game on Feb. 18. The day prior, the Jonas Brothers will brave the cold for a pre-game performance before the Devils host the Philadelphia Flyers.
