The Kansas City Chiefs are trying accomplish what the Islanders and few other franchise have

You can argue whether the Kansas City Chiefs are already a dynasty after winning five Super Bowl trophies in the last five seasons. However, this year, Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce are out to distinguish themselves from some of the greatest teams in NFL history by completing a three-peat, which is rare in all sports but has never been done in the Super Bowl Era.

During the broadcast, NBC put together a graphic presentation highlighting the last teams to accomplish what Andy Reid's team is attempting to do this season. The video package, "Pat & Trav's Excellent Adventure: Visiting The 3-Peats," listed the last teams to win three consecutive championships by league.

With Mahomes and Kelce traveling in a red phone booth like Keanu Reeves did in the 1989 film, they visit the 2000-2002 Los Angeles Lakers in the NBA, the 1998-2000 New York Yankees in MLB, the 1965-1967 Green Bay Packers in the NFL, and the 1980-1983 New York Islanders.

Eight NFL franchises have won back-to-back Super Bowls (the Pittsburgh Steelers did it twice), but each failed to hoist the Lombardi trophy for a third straight year. Each was led by NFL Hall of Fame quarterbacks ranging from Tom Brady and Joe Montana to Terry Bradshaw and John Elway. A third straight for Mahomes could set him on a trajectory to potentially surpass Brady someday as the "GOAT" status he has been given after winning seven total Super Bowls.

If the Chiefs do pull off the three-peat, a different video package will need to be put together for next season. All the teams mentioned, except the Islanders, would drop off, as they are the last NHL team to win four straight Stanley Cups. The Boston Celtics of the 1950s and 60s won eight consecutive championships, while the New York Yankees won five straight from 1949 to 1953.
