The New York Islanders haven't advanced in the Stanley Cup Playoffs since 2021, but their postseason success during Barry Trotz's first three seasons has them around the league average for playoff series won over the last 15 years.

The NHL posted a timelapse graphic on social media this week showing how many series wins each franchise has achieved since the 2008-09 season. As fans know all too well, the Islanders were stuck on zero until 2016 when John Tavares scored in 2OT to defeat the Florida Panthers in Game 6, advancing the Isles for the first time since the 1992-93 season. That was 23 years!

After missing the playoffs the following two seasons, the Isles returned to the playoffs in 2019 during Trotz's first year, sweeping the Pittsburgh Penguins in the first round. A year later, in the Toronto bubble, the Isles were credited with three series wins after knocking off the Florida Panthers in the qualifying round before beating the Washington Capitals and Philadelphia Flyers. In 2021, they finished the Pens and Boston Bruins in six games.

Those seven playoff series wins have the Isles T-16th with the Nashville Predators with seven playoff series wins over the last 15 seasons. The Lightning own the top spot with 20 after their three consecutive trips to the Stanley Cup Final. The Bruins, Chicago Blackhawks, and Penguins are next with 17. The 13 series wins for the Rangers is the most of any team without a cup in that span.

Compared to their Metro Division rivals, the Islanders have more playoff series wins than the New Jersey Devils (6) and Philadelphia Flyers (6). The Columbus Blue Jackets have just two, which is still more than the Maple Leafs (1) and the expansion Seattle Kraken. The Buffalo Sabres are the only NHL team without a playoff series win in the last 15 years.
