There are only so many ways Ryan Pulock can say Matthew Schaefer is special before it starts sounding like he’s running out of adjectives.
And that’s kind of the point.
Pulock joined the Tri-State Hockey Podcast and basically admitted Schaefer comes up in nearly every interview he does. Not because he’s trying to force it. Schaefer just keeps giving him reasons.
“Every day I end up talking about him one way or another,” Pulock said, joking that he hopes Schaefer isn’t reading every interview because he’s “constantly talking about how great Matthew Schaefer is.”
The funny part is Pulock doesn’t even seem most impressed by the hockey. Sure, that’s where it starts. Islanders fans already watched Schaefer do things on the ice that make you forget how young he is. Pulock said you could talk about his game for an hour and still find more to say.

But listen to Pulock long enough and you realize the off-ice stuff might be what really blows him away.
He described Schaefer as someone who can still be a kid (in a good way) while also carrying himself with a maturity that doesn’t really match his age. And then Pulock got to the part that probably matters most inside an NHL locker room.
He called Schaefer "a really good human." That’s a veteran teammate telling you what kind of person the Islanders have inside their organization.
Long Island already understands how lucky it was to land Schaefer because of what he did on the ice. Pulock thinks fans would feel even stronger if they saw everything else.
"the greatest lottery that Long Island sports fans could have won," Pulock said,
The more Pulock talked about Schaefer, the more obvious it becomes he isn’t selling anything.
He sounds like the rest of us. A little bit in awe.
