It’s been a whirlwind 24 hours for Scott Perunovich after being traded to the NY Islanders from the St. Louis Blues, but he’s on Long Island and joined his new teammates at today's morning skate.
After hearing that he’d been traded to the Islanders, Perunovich spoke with former Islander and current Blue, Nick Leddy.
“I was talking to Ledsy (Leddy) yesterday - he had nothing but good things to say,” Perunovich said. “He said to reach out but he said I’m not going to have any problems. Great group of guys, great staff, and it should be a pretty easy transition.”
Perunovich can provide offense
With the absence of Noah Dobson, the Islanders were missing an offensive-minded defenseman, and have since replaced him with Tony DeAngelo and Perunovich, both puck-moving defenseman who can operate in the power play.
“My skillset, like I said, is just puck-moving defenseman” says Perunovich. “We’ve got good forwards here so I think, hopefully, it’s a good fit. Kind of get my feet moving, jump up, and create some offense.”
Islanders Head Coach Patrick Roy has been having to shuffle his lines seemingly every game as the injuries keep mounting up. With a struggling power play and DeAngelo quarterbacking the first unit, Roy says that Perunovich will also be deployed in the man advantage.
“Well I mean he’s a good puck mover,” said Roy. “In the games we watch, I mean, we feel like he’s going to help our power play, so he’ll play there. I’m excited to give him a chance to play for us.”
Perunovich will wear No. 26 with the Isles, last worn by Oliver Wahlstrom, who was waived just a few weeks ago.
