The injuries are racking up for the NY Islanders only 14 games into the season, with Ryan Pulock as the latest casualty.

The long-time NY Islanders defenseman took a knock just minutes into Thursday night's win against the Minnesota Wild, but did not play against the Edmonton Oilers in today's 4-0 shutout loss. With Pulock's absence, the Islanders subsequently called up Isaiah George from the Hamilton Hammers.

In all, the Islanders are down five players who were meant to be on their opening night roster.

Perhaps the biggest loss and most confusing is Mat Barzal, who is yet to play this season while dealing with complications following his knee injury during the 2024-24 season. Barzal has been skating on his own, but hasn't taken the next step in his progression towards returning to the lineup. It's still unknown when or if he'll return this season.

Alexander Romanov will be out for teh remainder of the season after tearing his ACL against the New York Rangers, dealing with his second major injury in as many years after signing an eight-year extension last summer

Matis Maccelli and Cal Ritchie were injured on the same night during a 4-1 Islanders victory against the Toronto Maple Leafs. Maccelli was given a 2-4 week timeline and has resumed skating, a very positive indication of his recovery. Ritchie, given a 4-6 week timeline, has yet to lace up his skates again.

The Islanders are finding success despite the injuries, but for how long can they keep their heads above water without some of their key players?
