In their second trip to Toronto this season, the NY Islanders battled their way to a 4-1 victory against the Maple Leafs for their first road win of the season.

The Islanders played nearly the entire game with 10 forwards, losing Cal Ritchie and Matias Maccelli in the first period.

Anthony Duclair opened the scoring in the first period, continuing his strong start to the season. Bo Horvat tallied his fifth goal in eight games in the second period, extending the lead to two. The Leafs pulled within one on a Colton Scissons goal in the third, but Simon Holmstrom slammed the door shut as the Leafs were pushing, giving the Isles a two-goal advantage. Holmstrom added an empty-net goal to seal the game.

Ilya Sorokin was phenomenal in net once again, improving his his 1.81 GAA and .934 SV%.

Now we await the news on Ritchie and Maccelli. Ritchie appeared to hurt his leg, skating to the bench gingerly after a routine collision against the boards. Maccelli’s leg got caught under his body as he hit the ice, in what could potentially be more serious.

Depending on both players' diagnoses, we could see Kyle MacLean in his first game of the season and potentially see our first call-up from the Hamilton Hammers. If either is placed on IR, Cole Eiserman could earn his first NHL call-up, or maybe we see Pierre Engvall or Liam Foudy recalled.

With Mat Barzal yet to play this season and Alexander Romanov out for the season, the injury bug has hit the Islanders hard already.
