MSG Networks t will feature a new look in the New York Islanders’ broadcast booth this season, with Thomas Hickey set to work the majority of games as an analyst alongside play-by-play voice Brendan Burke, a source confirmed to Newsday via media columnist Neil Best on Friday.

Hickey, 36, has been steadily building his broadcasting résumé since retiring from the Islanders following the 2021-22 season. He joined MSG’s coverage as a studio analyst in 2022-23 and has drawn praise for his sharp, modern insights. In addition to his Islanders role, Hickey also appears on Prime Video’s Monday night NHL broadcasts in Canada.

Longtime analyst Butch Goring will not be disappearing from Islanders coverage. Goring, 75, will remain heavily involved, working a variety of formats: some games as the lone analyst with Burke, others in a three-man booth with Hickey, and additional appearances in the studio. The four-time Stanley Cup champion and former Islanders head coach has been a staple of MSG’s broadcasts since 2010-11. The team retired his No. 91 in 2020.

Another familiar face, Cal Clutterbuck, will also expand his role on the studio side. Clutterbuck, who retired from the Islanders after the 2023-24 season, joined MSG’s coverage last year and will now see an increased presence during pregame, intermission, and postgame segments. MSG Networks will carry 72 of the Islanders’ 82 games this season, beginning with Opening Night on Oct. 9 at Pittsburgh.

The Islanders’ retooled broadcast lineup blends generations of team history: Goring, a dynasty-era legend; Hickey, a defenseman from the franchise’s more recent playoff runs; and Clutterbuck, a fan favorite known for his leadership and grit. Together, they’ll help tell the story of the next era of Islanders hockey.
