The NY Islanders PR team was named the recipient of the Dick Dillman Award for PR excellence

Long gone are the closed-door days of the NY Islanders under Lou Lamoriello. Since Mathieu Darche took over as the General Manager and Executive Vice President of Hockey Operations, the organization has been much more open-minded for the world to see.

Today, the NY Islanders were the recipient of the Dick Dillman Memorial Award for PR Excellence, along with teh Colorado Avalanche and the Dallas Stars.

In the seven seasons with Lamoriello in charge, not much from behind the scenes was made available to fans, as the Hall of Famer kept everything close to his chest. But under Darche, the fans get to see a side of the organization they'd never seen before, including the On The Island docu-series.

"The true credit belongs to the dedication and partnership shown by our players and coaching staff on a daily basis," Senior Vice President of Communications Kimber Auerbach said. "Their reliable presence, consistent professionalism, and willingness to engage with reporters are the foundation to build a connection with our fanbase and community.... We'd also like to thank our ownership and front office for cultivating an environment built on openness, trust, and accessibility."

On The Island followed the organization from the 2025 NHL Draft when they selected Matthew Schaefer with the first overall pick, through the ups and downs of an NHL campaign.

Auerbach was not only vital to the Islanders turning the script on a new regime, but was also a media officer of the USA men's hockey team that won the Gold Medal at the 2026 Winter Olympics.
