After an abysmal 2024-25 season, the Bridgeport Islanders, the NY Islanders' AHL affiliate, have decided to hold onto two of their own, re-signing Liam Foudy and Julien Gauthier, both to one-year, two-way contracts.

Foudy, 25, was the 18th overall pick for the Columbus Blue Jackets in 2018, joining the Islanders organization last season.

In 70 AHL games, the Scarborough, ON native recorded 45 points (20 G, 25 A), finishing third in goals for Bridgeport, while tying for second in points and assists.

While the Islanders struggled with injuries early into the season, Foudy earned his first call-up with the franchise, making his Isles debut on Oct. 22 against the Detroit Red Wings. He’d play in just two games with the Islanders, failing to record a point while averaging 7:27 of ice-time.

Gauthier, 27, the 21st overall pick in 2016 by the Carolina Hurricanes, has the tools to be an effective NHL winger, but hasn’t been able to put those tools together to build a stable NHL career.

Gauthier made the Islanders roster out of training camp in favor of Pierre Engvall, despite Engvall being one year into a seven-year extension.

Quickly finding himself out of favor with Head Coach Patrick Roy, Gauthier played just one game with the Islanders before being placed on waivers and reporting to Bridgeport, scoring three goals and five assists in nine games in the AHL.

Foudy and Gauthier will both be quality AHLers under Rocky Thompson in his first season in charge in Bridgeport. If the Islanders find themselves in an injury bind again this season, both forwards can slot in nearly anywhere in the lineup.
