The NY Islanders' top prospects impress in rookie game against the NJ Devils

Yesterday was the first time we got to see the NY Islanders logo flying across the ice since the end of the 2025-26 season, as the Isles' prospects took on the NJ Devils' prospects in New Jersey.

While it was only an exhibition game, the Islanders' top prospects stood out among the group in what was a 5-4 OT win.

The massive presence that is Daniil Prokhorov asserted himself in every aspect of the game. His size was a factor, especially in front of the net, where he hammered home two goals from close range. For a player who is nearly 6'6", he has soft hands that can be used while shielding defenders from the puck. Not to mention, he put on nearly 15 pounds over the summer.

Victor Eklund, who could make a case to be part of the opening night roster, had one of the highlights of the game. Coming down ice on a 2-on-1, Eklund looked as if he was going to pass the puck, but instead fired a no-look shot, beating teh goaltender over the shoulder. With an NHL point already to his name, the Swedish winger was all over the ice from the opening puck drop. Even if he doesn't make the opening night roster, it shouldn't be long until we see him again at UBS Arena.

Quiet for most of the game, Cole Eiserman showed up in crunch time. Trailing with under two minutes left in the game and the goalie pulled, Eiserman cleaned up a rebound, scoring the game-tying goal. In the extra period, while on a 2-on-1, Eiserman only had shot on his mind. Cutting towards the middle of teh ice, he dragged the puck towards his body, showing off his lethal shot to beat the netminder over the pad.

It was just a rookie game, but the Islanders' big names made sure they left their stamp on it.
