Brock Nelson was the only New York Islanders representative at the wildly successful 4 Nations Face-off in February. However, in the coming weeks, Isles fans will get a chance to watch a few of their own in action at the 2025 IIHF World Championship.
Bo Horvat and Noah Dobson are set to represent Team Canada at the Tournament, running from May 9–25 in Stockholm, Sweden (and co-hosted by Herning, Denmark). This will be Horvat’s second trip to the men’s worlds, and his first donning the Maple Leaf as an Islander. In 2018, he put up a solid 7 points (3G, 4A) in 10 games as Canada narrowly missed the podium.
Coming off a 57-point season with the Isles and leading the team in scoring, Bo will play a significant role up front for his home country. Here’s what Horvat had to say at locker cleanout day via The Hockey News: "It's definitely been talked about. I haven't made a decision or anything yet, but it's definitely something to consider, and a pretty big year, Olympic-wise, next year… I think it'd be a good stepping stone for me to go prove myself and represent my country."

As for Dobson, this marks his senior debut for Canada, though he's no stranger to international competition. He previously suited up at the 2019 World Juniors and the 2016 U-17 Challenge. Dobson finished with a team-leading 39 points from the back end (10G, 29A), but it represented a significant drop in offensive production following his 70-point campaign in 2023-24. Dobson is a restricted free agent this summer, and settling his contract status will be among the top priorities for the next Islanders General Manager.
“I don’t know exactly what it’s like, but the mindset going into it, for me, I only played 70 games this year, my body feels pretty good. And also with the Olympics coming up, it’s an opportunity to represent your country and put yourself in a position to get on the radar going into next season,” said Dobson via the New York Post. “Go into the summer feeling good, hopefully try and win a gold medal.”
According to beat reporter Stefen Rosner, winger Simon Holmstrom is also expected to play in the tournament for Team Sweden. Playing on home ice in Stockholm could give him a major confidence boost—and give Isles fans even more reason to tune in.
All three Islanders have a shot at making their country's Olympic Team in 2026 and this tournament will serve as an audition opportunity for them to build their case heading into next season.
