The Bad
After one month in, the Islanders are 23rd in the NHL in goals per game, with 2.79 per game. Interestingly, this is right about where the team found itself statistically for the 2025-2026 season. It’s not often the Isles are confused with an offensive powerhouse, but there is clearly room for improvement.
Of course, a large part of the reason the team finds itself struggling offensively is due to the absence of Barzal. The center concluded the 2025-2026 campaign with 72 points.
That kind of production isn’t something easily replaceable. Yet that is the situation the Islanders find themselves in.
Jean-Gabriel Pageau’s importance to the Islanders can’t be summed up just by looking at the numbers. Still, with Barzal out, increased production from Pageau would go a long way. Statistically speaking, Pageau is off to a bit of a slow start, with one goal so far this season. By comparison, JGP was responsible for seventeen goals last season.

Emil Heineman is another player the Islanders are hoping to see increased offensive production from. Last season, Heineman was responsible for 22 goals and has 2 after one month this season.
Whether it’s via help from Hamilton or players like JGP and Heineman picking up the pace offensively, the Isles need to find a way to generate goals, especially given the injury situation.
