The World Junior Summer Showcase will feature 2 NY Islanders prospects

We’re at the point of the offseason where there’s a lull in the action. Rookie camp is still over a month away, the NHL Draft has been completed, and most free agents have signed with their new teams. But there’s still some hockey to take in, as the World Junior Summer Showcase is underway in Windsor, ON. 

The World Junior Summer Showcase is an opportunity for the nations to get a glimpse of potential players who could be participating in the 2027 World Junior Championship in Red Deer and Edmonton, AB.

As is the norm in this competition, the USA, Canada, Sweden, and Finland will compete in the Summer Showcase, and two NY Islanders will be taking the ice for their respective nations.

For the United States, 2025 seventh-round pick Jacob Kvasnicka will have the opportunity to leave an impression, as he was one of the final players cut before the 2026 World Junior Championship. Kvasnicka was one of the WHL’s top performers last season, recording 85 points (35 G, 50 A) in 65 games, and will be making the jump to the NCAA for the 2026-27 season, where he’ll play for the University of Minnesota.

Taken in the first round, 13th overall, Malte Gustafsson, the towering blue liner, will line up for Sweden. Gustafsson will remain in Sweden this year, playing for HV71 in the SHL despite signing his ELC with the Islanders, and will likely be part of the Swedish roster looking to defend their title come this holiday season.
