Kyle Palmieri
Palmieri has had a resurgence under coach Patrick Roy. He scored 30 goals and had his best season as an Islander last season. He is having another solid season with 26 points in 39 games. Palmieri is also in the last year of his deal and could attract a lot of attention come the trade deadline.
Two teams I could see be a fit are the New Jersey Devils and the Toronto Maple Leafs.
A trade with the Devils could look like this:
Islanders acquire: New Jersey’s 2025 second-round pick, and Vegas' 2025 third-round pick (currently owned by New Jersey according to Puckpedia)
Devils acquire: Kyle Palmieri (NYI retain 50%)
The Devils don’t own their first-round pick but the Islanders are able to get depth picks in this year’s NHL Draft. This would allow the blue and orange to add more prospects to the prospect pool. The Devils are a team that could use a scoring winger and Palmieri would be a fit for his former team.
A trade with Toronto could look like this,
Islanders acquire: Nick Robertson and Toronto’s 2025 second-round pick
Maples Leafs acquire: Kyle Palmieri (NYI retain 50%)
Toronto could fit Palmieri on any of the top six lines and he could be a useful piece next to Auston Matthews or John Tavares. The Islanders get a young player in Robertson and a draft pick.
I think the trade with New Jersey is more likely.
Other names that have popped up are Jean-Gabriel Pageau and Anders Lee but I would expect those to be offseason moves if the Islanders decide to move on from them.
A lineup for the rest of the season could look like
