There was a rumor circulating that the New York Islanders would’ve been a third team in a Conor Hellebuyck trade last week. Could the Islanders be in a position to be a third team in a deal again?

Here are three players who the Islanders could acquire that would be considered “cap dumps.” With Mat Barzal, Matias Maccelli, and Cal Ritchie out for the time being, any of these players add a lot of value.

Alex Killorn

The Anaheim Ducks are in desperate need to shed cap space and a former player that is familiar with Mathieu Darche could be available. Killorn is a free agent after this season, and makes $6.250 million.

He could be acquired with a draft pick to give the Islanders some much needed depth. This would give the Islanders an extra pick and a player that the squad could use as a useful depth piece. He could potentially have the same effect on Victor Eklund that Brayden Schenn had on Cal Ritchie.

Evan Rodrigues

The New Jersey Devils are in the same conversation when it comes to acquiring Dylan Larkin, especially after getting Hellebuyck. Rodrigues was traded to the Devils in the Jacob Markstrom trade and has been a good depth guy for the black and red.

He has five points in 13 games and is in the final year of his deal making $3.075 million. Rodrigues could be a top six player on the island and could even see powerplay time.

Tyler Seguin

The Dallas Stars are a team that would need to free up cap space to get a Dylan Larkin type of player. The Detroit Red Wings might not want Seguin as part of the package, and with the way the Islanders forward group has been the squad could take the chance on taking the former No. 2 overall pick.

Seguin is in the final season of his deal and makes $9.850 million. The center would help actually be a big help to the blue and orange’s forward group. He has six points in 12 games and could provide much needed depth scoring to the Island.

The issue is Seguin has a full no-movement clause and may not want to leave Dallas.
