Will we see Mitch Marner with the NY Islanders Next Season?

Having Mitch Marner on the Islanders would certainly be a great addition, but is he worth it?

With the Toronto Maple Leafs' season coming to a disappointing end once again, there is speculation now more than ever about what will happen to new free agent Mitch Marner. It is likely that the Maple Leafs will not be re-signing Marner, but what does the internet think? That Marner will be wearing the blue and orange next season.

Mitch Marner is an unrestricted free agent this summer, and the Islanders could definitely use a player like him. He has been a driving force for the Leafs for years, and even hit 100 points for the first time in his career this season. Mitch is known for being a player who makes show-stopping plays, scores tough goals, and plays incredible defense, making him a great candidate for a team that needs just about all of that. So he has the talent, it just comes to the challenge of if he's worth it or not.

We currently see a divide amongst Islanders fans who think he would be too much of a liability pay-wise and think he isn't consistent enough, and those who think he is worth every penny he would be asking for. Fans on social media are arguing in each other's comments, and there's discourse on every post about whether or not this signing would be a good idea.

For a quick biased opinion, I lean more towards agreeing that he would be a great fit, especially because the Isles really need a player who can get around opponents like Marner can, and take any and every opportunity to shoot the puck. Not to mention the fact that Mitch is often on the penalty kill as well as the power play, for being a great defensive player. The islanders could surely use a player who can do both at the level that he does.

With new management pieces coming in (with or without Lamoriello's advice) adding Marner into the mix could be a really great option considering the fact that they would then have the chance to shape the team around players such as him, Barzal, and Horvat.

So, what do you think? Should the Islanders take a chance on Mitch Marner, or should they stick to improving the talent they already have and pull in some young bodies to build a Stanley Cup contender for years to come?
