This season has not been off to a good for the Islanders. The team has not been scoring many goals and the top goaltender reportedly wants to be traded. The team has had over a month to learn to play with each other. But, nothing has worked for Jack Capuano’s troop and fans are getting annoyed. Here are my reasons to why I think the team is struggling.

At first, I thought it would take some time for the new players to come in and learn to play together. It took a month for Ladd and Chimera scored their first goals on the same night. But, a month in and fans still haven’t seen them or others gel together. So, what line can you really trust to score these goals?

After Halak got hurt at the midway point last season, Griess took charge. However, no one thought the backup would go on such a great run and that Halak would become more of an afterthought.

So it was a bit of a surprise to see coach Capuano got with Greiss to start the season. And even stick with him in this slide. So far it hasn’t been going well. Fans have seen Halak come out strong but end weak. To be fair, Greiss hasn’t looked much better.

On offense, the team has had times where they come out looking good and bad. Some games it has taken awhile for them to show up and other they are hot out of the gates. The Tavares line with bailey and Ladd has not been a line that scores many goals. For now, I would suggest Ryan Strome who is playing well despite the team struggles.

For Jack Capuano, it has been a wild ride since he got here. Never a fan favorite but still a good winning coach. He’s got a nice record in team history. Only Arbour, Laviolette, and, depending on the math, Nolan have a better win percentage than Capuano.

I think the time for a change is near. When a team is not playing well it falls on the coach. Management should focus on change now. There is still plenty of time to win and sneak into the playoffs. But something has to give and fast.
