The New York Islanders took on the Detroit Red Wings last night. Their Achilles heel was too may turnovers as the Red Wings won in overtime.

The Islanders played a pretty good first period in my mind, it was the second and third period that ended up being the killer for the New York Islanders. The real issue in the loss to Detroit last night was turnovers.

Nick Leddy turned the puck over in the offensive zone which led to a Red Wings rush, Frans Nielsen found Mike Green and the Wings were able to tie up the game at one. The Isles weren’t done turning it over.

On the Red Wings second goal, it was Dennis Seidenberg who turned the puck over on a blind backhand pass that went right to Thomas Vanek and he found Mike Green again.

For the Red Wings third goal it was a bad pass from Johnny Boychuk which led to the Detroit goal. Bad turnovers is something that sticks out when watching these Islanders losses. They have to make better decisions with the puck.

“Certain guys struggled,” coach Jack Capuano said. “I’m not going to name names, but certain guys need to find their game. They’re getting ice time and they need to figure it out.”

Capuano didn’t put the blame on anyone in particular but he also gave out signals that the Isles performance hasn’t been good enough. He’s right, but he’s got to be a part of the change. It’s on him just as much as the players.
